Based in sunny Wynnum on the southeast side of Brisbane, Conway Guitars is the brainchild of me – Ryan Conway.
Just a one-man-shop (for now) I started the business back in 2013 with a few tools, a single workbench and a whole lot of passion. I didn’t have a ‘dream’ or a ‘vision’ of where I wanted things to go, all I knew is I wanted to fix people’s guitars, and one day – hopefully – build custom instruments for whoever may want them.
I’m proud to say 9 years later, all of that has become my heart warming reality!
As for building guitars, it all started for me when I was 16 and made a custom 12-string for a school project (you can find it in the Guitars section!) and I’ve been building guitars ever since!
Now in my 30th year of existence, I’m still learning and finding new and better ways to build guitars every day.
Am I a luthier? Whilst I’d love to say yes, I feel the title of ‘luthier’ should only ever be given to those who have spent 50 years honing their craft to the point where they literally have no more knowledge to gain. I’m certainly not at that point yet, but I definitely hope to someday. So for now I will say I’m an ‘aspiring luthier’.
At the end of the day it all comes down to three words. I. Love. Guitars. The three words that answer most questions relating to why I do what I do, why I started doing what I do, and why I will continue to do what I do. Plain and simple.
