1960’s Jason Hollowbody gets a second life – Part 1

It’s no secret that some very cool, unique and interesting guitars came out of Japan in the 60’s and 70’s. This guitar is one of them and falls into each of those three categories

It is a Jason, which were Ibanez guitars, rebranded under a different name when brought into Australia in the 1950’s and 60’s. These guitars are rare, and there is next to no information on them.

The guitar belonged to the owner’s grandfather, and therefore had a lot of sentimental value, motivating him to get it restored.

Only a cheap guitar when originally purchased in the 60’s, it was not short of unique features reminiscent of the time period. At this stage the client was unsure of how faithful he wanted to keep the restoration, he wanted the guitar to be played more than anything and to be a gigging guitar – but many of the parts were not of the greatest quality.

We decided to think on it as the restoration was in process
